The Courage to Live explores what it means to face fear directly and lead with resilience in the moments that matter most. Over the course of my 24 year career in law enforcement, I encountered situations that tested both tactics and character. As one of three officers to breach the suspect’s room during the 1 October Las Vegas shooting, the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history, I experienced firsthand how fear, uncertainty, and responsibility collide in an instant.

This book is not just about that night, but about the many critical incidents, personal losses, and hard lessons that shaped me as a leader and as a person. I share candid stories from the field and from my own life, paired with practical tools that readers can use to strengthen their own courage, decision making, and emotional resilience.

Whether you are a first responder, a leader in your organization, or someone navigating personal challenges, The Courage to Live offers a framework for carrying the weight of experience with wisdom instead of letting it crush you. Real courage is not the absence of fear, but the choice to move forward with clarity and conviction.
